In a thrilling final match at the 2024 global Chess Championship in Singapore, 18-year-old Indian prodigy Gukesh Dommaraju defeated China’s Ding Liren to become the game’s youngest-ever global champion.

2023: An Amazing Year
For Gukesh, 2023 turned out to be a turning point. He surpassed his hero Viswanathan Anand to become India’s top-ranked chess player in August, making history as the youngest player to reach a FIDE rating of 2750.
He won the Candidates Tournament later that year, guaranteeing his spot in the World Chess Championship. In addition to his outstanding year, Gukesh helped India win its first-ever gold medal at the Chess Olympiad, solidifying his status as a top player.
